Hackathon 2025 for TIMB3R DIP 5.0 Kickstarts Designer–Manufacturer Collaboration for Compact Living Solutions

KUALA LUMPUR, 4 December 2025 – The TIMB3R Design Incubator Programme (DIP) 5.0, organised by the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC), successfully launched its Hackathon 2025 at Common Ground Bukit Bintang. This pivotal event marks the beginning of the programme’s fifth cycle, bringing together participating designers and manufacturers for the critical matchmaking process that will shape the next generation of compact living timber solutions.

Focused on the theme “Compact Living”, TIMB3R DIP 5.0 aims to address the increasing global demand for small-space, multifunctional and sustainable furniture. Over the coming months, designers and manufacturers will collaborate to develop innovative timber products that reflect modern living needs and Malaysia’s evolving design capabilities.

The Hackathon, supported by the Malaysian Furniture Council (MFC), the Malaysian Wood Moulding & Joinery Council (MWMJC), and the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID), underscores strong industry support for advancing Malaysia’s furniture design ecosystem.

Led by Design Chief Adjudicator, Prof. Dr. Eric Leong, a respected figure in Malaysia’s furniture and interior design industry, the session guided participants through idea refinement, feasibility evaluation, and collaboration alignment. His direction provided crucial insight for helping designers develop practical, market-ready concepts under the compact living theme.

“The successful kickoff of Hackathon 2025 reflects the industry’s commitment to nurturing innovation, sustainability, and talent development,” said Mr. Desmond Tan, Chairman of TIMB3R DIP. “With the Compact Living theme, TIMB3R DIP 5.0 is well-positioned to deliver fresh, versatile, and export-ready timber solutions that meet global market trends.”

Hackathon 2025 received encouraging feedback from both designers and manufacturers, highlighting the strong collaborative spirit of the programme. With robust industry support and a clear focus on compact living innovations, TIMB3R DIP 5.0 is set to produce another inspiring series of Malaysian timber products.
